According to a report by Fast Technology on July 15, blogger Super Dimension recently revealed that the Huawei Mate 90 series new product launch event is expected to be held in mid-to-late September, possibly around September 15 or September 22, and the launch location will be Shenzhen.

If this news is true, the launch event for the Huawei Mate 90 series will most likely be scheduled after the unveiling of the Apple iPhone 18 Pro series. The time interval between the two major events will not be too long, which will create a direct confrontation between the two flagship camps of HarmonyOS and iOS.

As the most powerful Mate model ever, the Mate 90 series will be the first to feature a new generation of Kirin chips built on the principles of time (τ). The core idea of this technology is to replace the “geometric scaling” relied upon by the traditional Moore’s Law with “time (τ) scaling”.

This means that instead of simply reducing the physical size of transistors, innovative technologies such as logic folding are used to achieve synergistic optimization at the four levels of devices, circuits, chips, and systems, compressing signal propagation delay, thereby significantly improving transistor density and overall system performance at the same process node.

Compared to its predecessor, the Kirin 9030 Pro, the Kirin 2026, which adopts the Tao Law, achieves a 55% improvement in transistor density, resulting in a leapfrog performance upgrade and undoubtedly becoming the most powerful mobile phone chip in Huawei’s history.

It’s worth noting that the previous flagship Mate 80 series didn’t feature the current flagship SoC Kirin 9030 across the entire lineup; the standard version used the Kirin 9020. Based on this product positioning strategy, the Mate 90 series likely won’t feature the Kirin 2026 across the entire lineup either. However, it’s certain that the Pro Max and RS Master Editions will undoubtedly be equipped with this new chip.

To date, the number of HarmonyOS 6 devices has exceeded 70 million, and the HarmonyOS operating system is rapidly approaching the milestone of 100 million devices. With the arrival of the Mate 90 series, the growth rate of the HarmonyOS ecosystem will further accelerate, and it is expected to break through the 100 million device mark by the end of the year. In the Chinese smartphone operating system market, HarmonyOS has firmly secured the second position, demonstrating strong development momentum.
