Kirin is back! Huawei’s Pura 80 series unveils its first chip: Kirin 9020
Blogger discovered that after the Huawei Pura 80 series was updated to version 5.1.0.217, the “About Phone” interface showed that the phone was equipped with the Kirin 9020 chip. This is the first time that Huawei has stated the Kirin chip model on the About Phone interface since the P50 series.
It is reported that the Kirin 9020 CPU consists of 1×2.5GHz large core + 3×2.15GHz medium core + 4×1.6GHz small core, and integrates Maleoon 920 GPU. This is currently Huawei’s most powerful mobile phone chip.

Looking back at Huawei’s development history, Huawei briefly used Qualcomm chips on the Mate 50 series, P50 series and P60 series, but in August 2023, Huawei launched the Mate 60 series without warning. The series is equipped with the Kirin 9000S chip, marking the return of the Kirin 5G platform on Huawei mobile phones.
In the first half of this year, Huawei launched its first HarmonyOS computer. The new product is equipped with the Kirin X90 chip, marking that Kirin chips fully cover Huawei’s mobile phones, tablets, computers and other devices. At the same time, Huawei terminals have also fully entered the HarmonyOS era.
Looking ahead to the second half of the year, the Huawei Mate 80 series is expected to be equipped with the new Kirin platform – Kirin 9030, and the new product will debut in Q4 this year.
