REDMI debuts! Snapdragon 8s Gen4 preview: another flagship masterpiece from Qualcomm

Recently, digital blogger Digital Chat Station revealed that the final version of Qualcomm SM8735/Snapdragon 8s Gen4 has been determined. Earlier, there were rumors that the chip would be renamed Snapdragon 8s Elite, and its Chinese name would be Snapdragon 8s Extreme Edition, but from the current situation, it will eventually continue the naming method of the previous generation, namely Snapdragon 8s Gen4.
In terms of process technology, Snapdragon 8s Gen4 uses TSMC’s 4nm process. The advanced process technology brings a double improvement in performance and energy efficiency to the chip, allowing the phone to run various applications more smoothly, while reducing power consumption and extending battery life.

In terms of CPU architecture, the chip adopts the X4+A720 full-core architecture. Specifically, its CPU configuration is 1 X4 super core with a main frequency of up to 3.21GHz, 3 A720 large cores with a main frequency of 3.01GHz, 2 A720 large cores with a main frequency of 2.80GHz, and 2 A720 large cores with a main frequency of 2.02GHz.
This all-large-core design greatly enhances the chip’s multi-tasking capabilities and single-threaded performance, and can easily handle switching between multiple applications in daily use or running large games and professional software.

In terms of GPU, the Snapdragon 8s Gen4 is equipped with the Adreno 825 GPU of the same generation as the Snapdragon 8 Extreme Edition. Although its core size is slightly lower than that of the Adreno 830, it still has powerful graphics processing capabilities, which can bring users a clear, smooth and realistic visual experience, meeting the high requirements of gamers and professional users for graphics performance.
In terms of cache configuration, the chip is equipped with 6MB of SLC (second-level cache) and 8MB of L3 (third-level cache). The addition of large-capacity cache effectively improves data access speed, makes the system respond more quickly, and further improves overall performance. In terms of running points, the Snapdragon 8s Gen4’s running points on AnTuTu exceeded 2 million, which fully proves its excellent performance.
It is worth mentioning that the chip does not use Qualcomm’s self-developed Oryon CPU architecture, mainly because the cost of self-developed solutions is relatively high. In order to reduce costs while ensuring performance and improve market competitiveness, Qualcomm finally chose the Arm public version architecture.
According to the leak, Snapdragon 8s Gen4 will be officially unveiled in April, and related terminal products will also be released in April. Among them, REDMI Turbo 4 Pro will be the first model equipped with this chip, and iQOO Z10 Turbo Pro, Xiaomi Civi 5 Pro and other models will also adopt this chip one after another.
