During the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Barcelona, Qualcomm’s Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Don McGuire, announced the upcoming Snapdragon Summit in October 2024. At this event, Qualcomm will unveil its flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 platform. McGuire expressed excitement about the release, indicating that the anticipation for the new chipset is high among tech enthusiasts and industry insiders alike.

McGuire also addressed the topic of artificial intelligence (AI), urging people not to resist or fear it. He suggested that AI won’t replace humans shortly but will serve as a “second brain,” enhancing our capabilities rather than supplanting them.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 mobile platform is expected to be a significant departure from previous designs, as it will utilize TSMC’s 3nm process technology and shift away from Arm’s standard CPU architecture. Instead, it will feature Qualcomm’s proprietary architecture, Nuvia Phoenix, marking a pivotal change in Qualcomm’s approach to chipset design. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will include 2 Nuvia Phoenix performance cores and 6 Nuvia Phoenix M cores, forming a new dual-cluster, eight-core CPU architecture. This represents a major evolution in Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 5G SoC lineup.

Furthermore, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is set to integrate a powerful Adreno 830 GPU. Preliminary tests in 3DMark Wild Life Extreme suggest that its performance could surpass Apple’s M2 chip by approximately 10%, with expectations that the production version will achieve even higher benchmarks.

This processor is poised to be the most powerful chip in the Android ecosystem. It is anticipated that flagship smartphones released at the end of this year, including the Xiaomi 15 series, OnePlus 13 series, Redmi K80 series, and Samsung Galaxy S25 series, will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip.
