The UFS 5.0 era has arrived! Samsung Galaxy S27 series launches at breakneck speed.
According to Fast Technology on April 16th, all models in the Samsung Galaxy S26 series are currently equipped with UFS 4.1 flash memory. Looking ahead to the next flagship, reports suggest that the Galaxy S27 series will be the first to feature the new UFS 5.0 flash memory, marking the beginning of a new era of storage performance for the mobile phone industry.
UFS 5.0 is a next-generation general-purpose flash memory storage standard developed under the leadership of the JEDEC Solid State Technology Association, designed specifically for mobile and embedded systems requiring extremely high performance and ultra-low power consumption. The advancement of this standard heralds a qualitative leap in the read and write capabilities of mobile devices.
According to industry plans, the standard will be finalized by JEDEC between 2025 and 2026. Compared to the current UFS 4.x series, UFS 5.0 offers significantly improved sequential read and write speeds, with a theoretical maximum speed that can reach an astonishing 10.8GB/s.
This leap in performance is thanks to the adoption of the new MIPIM-PHYv6.0 and UniProv3.0 specifications. Among them, M-PHYv6.0 introduces the key HS-G6 technology, which enables a leap in single-channel data rate through PAM4 signal modulation and a new line coding method.
This means that in future use cases, whether it’s loading ultra-large games, processing high-bitrate 8K videos, or performing complex local calculations on large AI models, phones equipped with this flash memory will be able to provide unprecedented responsiveness and smoothness.
It’s worth noting that the next-generation flagship platforms, the Snapdragon 8E6 series and the Dimensity 9600 Pro, will be among the first to offer support for UFS 5.0 flash memory. This means that not only Samsung, but also high-end smartphones worldwide are about to enter the UFS 5.0 era.
With the simultaneous upgrades to core processors and storage standards, the hardware bottlenecks of smartphones will be further broken. For users seeking ultimate performance, the arrival of UFS 5.0 will completely transform the speed experience of mobile devices.
