The Chinese leaker “Digital Chat Station” today revealed the detailed specifications of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, manufactured using TSMC’s N3P process. This is TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process. Under the same power consumption, the N3P node improves performance by 4%, reduces power consumption by 9% at the same frequency, and increases overall transistor density by 4%.

Xiaomi 16 will debut first! The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 uses the N3P process and features a 2+6 custom CPU architecture. The CPU still uses Qualcomm’s in-house Oryon architecture, with a design consisting of 2 ultra-large cores and 6 large cores.

It integrates an Adreno 840 GPU, with the independent cache expanded from 12MB to 16MB. The NPU (Neural Processing Unit) performance also increased significantly, from 80 TOPS to 100 TOPS, greatly enhancing AI capabilities.

The chip also supports SME1 and SVE2 instruction sets. SME (Scalable Multimedia Extensions) is part of the Arm64 architecture, providing more vector registers and larger vector lengths, allowing the processor to more efficiently handle multimedia and graphics-related computing tasks.

SVE2 adds a series of instructions aimed at computer vision, 5G, and multimedia acceleration, extending beyond high-performance computing and machine learning. It improves CPU efficiency for high-load AI and multimedia workloads and enhances power control.

As usual, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is expected to launch in October, with the Xiaomi 16 series being the first to feature it.
