According to a leak, the Xiaomi 18 standard edition engineering sample will be equipped with a dual 200-megapixel imaging solution for the first time. This combination includes a 200-megapixel, 1/1.28-inch ultra-large sensor main camera and a periscope telephoto lens of the same size.

This high-performance telephoto lens not only supports telephoto macro capabilities but also boasts 3x optical zoom. This signifies a significant leap forward in the Xiaomi 18’s imaging specifications, with its hardware parameters now comparable to those of Pro-level models.

Compared to the combination of a 50-megapixel main camera and a vertical telephoto lens used in its predecessor, the Xiaomi 17, the Xiaomi 18 not only introduces a more advanced periscope telephoto lens, but also achieves a significant increase in the number of pixels, bringing about a qualitative leap in image resolution.

Compared to traditional upright telephoto lenses, periscope telephoto lenses have a more complex structure. They cleverly utilize the principle of optical reflection, using internal mirrors or prisms to bend the light path, allowing light to form a longer focal length within a slim body, thus achieving clear shooting at a distance.

More importantly, the periscope structure can accommodate a larger, higher-quality image sensor and incorporate a more advanced image stabilization module. This indicates that the Xiaomi 18 will have a significant improvement in image quality at the telephoto end, not only shooting further but also achieving a success rate among the top tier in the industry.

In terms of performance, following past practice, Xiaomi’s digital series usually debuts the Snapdragon 8 series platform, but is limited by the extremely high manufacturing cost of the 2nm cutting-edge process.

The final choice of the core processor for the Xiaomi 18 standard edition is still uncertain. It may be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen6 or the previous generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen5 chip.
