Snapdragon 8 Gen5 CPU clocked at 5.0GHz: Qualcomm’s most aggressive mobile chip

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen5 uses the same design as Snapdragon 8 Gen4, consisting of 2 high-performance cores and 6 efficiency cores.

It was revealed that Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen5’s high-performance core is code-named Pegasus, with a CPU main frequency of an astonishing 5.0GHz and an efficiency core CPU frequency of 4.0GHz, which is much higher than Snapdragon 8 Gen4’s 4.32GHz and 3.53GHz.

It is worth noting that Qualcomm is fully preparing for the mass production and launch of Snapdragon 8 Gen4, and it is too early to discuss Snapdragon 8 Gen5 now.

If the news is true, the performance of Snapdragon 8 Gen5 will once again break the industry record with a significant improvement.

It is worth noting that there were previous reports that Qualcomm was considering adopting a dual foundry strategy with Samsung and TSMC, and it is not ruled out that Snapdragon 8 Gen5 will be publicly outsourced to Samsung and TSMC.

At the previous Computex 2024 exhibition, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said that Qualcomm is considering establishing a dual procurement partnership.

Public information shows that Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, Snapdragon 8 Gen1 and other chips were once outsourced to Samsung, but because Samsung’s 5nm and 4nm process technology was immature at the time, the reputation of the Snapdragon 8 series was affected, prompting Qualcomm to turn to TSMC.

Analysts said that Qualcomm is considering dual outsourcing in the future, on the one hand to reduce costs, and on the other hand to hedge against the adverse effects of process problems with a single supplier.
