Qualcomm introduces the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, designed to elevate the performance of affordable smartphones. Key improvements over the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 include enhanced processing power, support for higher resolution camera sensors and faster wireless connectivity. Built on an advanced process node, it also optimizes battery efficiency, allowing users to enjoy longer usage on a single charge.

Samsung’s 4nm node now powers the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4

The Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 is manufactured using Samsung Foundry’s 4nm (4LPX) process node, an advancement over the 6nm (N6) process employed in the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3. This innovation enables higher power efficiency, allowing smartphones to deliver longer-lasting battery performance.

Built around a balanced octa-core design, it employs four high-performance Cortex-A78 cores (2.4 GHz) and four power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores (1.8 GHz). This enhanced setup doubles the number of high-performance cores compared to the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3, delivering up to a 36% improvement in CPU performance.

The Adreno GPU, most likely the Adreno 810, provides a significant 59% uplift in graphics performance compared to the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3. Qualcomm has also enhanced display capabilities, enabling support for Full HD+ panels at up to 144Hz, an improvement over the previous 120Hz limit.

The Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 introduces several performance and efficiency upgrades designed for the modern mid range smartphone. It features an Adreno GPU with Variable Rate Shading (VRS), Vulkan 1.3 API support and Qualcomm Game Quick Touch enhancing visual fidelity and responsiveness during gameplay. The platform also supports HDR gaming and HLG-format HDR video playback for a more immersive viewing experience.

Memory and storage flexibility are strong, with support for up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage plus optional microSD expansion. Quick Charge 4+ support enables fast wired charging of up to 100W.

Camera performance is driven by a dual 12-bit Spectra ISP, capable of handling 200MP image sensors and 2K video recording at 30fps as well as 240fps slow-motion capture at 720p. Notably 4K recording support remains absent.

The integrated Snapdragon X62 modem provides mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G connectivity, offering peak download speeds of up to 2.9 Gbps and dual-SIM 5G capability. Additional features include Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4 LE, NFC, USB 3.1 Type-C, triple-frequency GNSS, and Qualcomm’s 3D Sonic Sensor Max.
