iPhone 16 killer feature revealed! Apple A18 processor NPU performance is stronger than M4

It is understood that the NPU of the previous generation A17 Pro processor has 16 cores and a performance of 35TOPS.

In May this year, Apple released the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro equipped with the M4 processor, which is based on TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process, has 28 billion transistors, and the NPU computing power has been increased from 18TOPS to 38TOPS.

At the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 10, Apple announced a new AI system, Apple Intelligence, which will be integrated into Apple’s operating system and requires powerful NPU performance to support its language and image understanding capabilities.

According to Microsoft’s definition of “AI PC”, the computing power of the NPU must reach at least 40TOPS. At the same time, with the development of AI technology, mobile phones need to support more complex end-side large models.

Therefore, the NPU performance of the A18 series processors is expected to be significantly improved, and may even reach 45TOPS, the strongest NPU among current AI PC processors.

According to previous reports, all four models of Apple iPhone 16 will be equipped with A18 series chips as standard, instead of adopting a differentiated strategy like the iPhone 15, with the standard version equipped with A18 and the Pro version equipped with A18 Pro.
