Analyst Jeff Pu revealed that the standard version of the iPhone 17 will be equipped with the same A18 chip as the iPhone 16 (built based on TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process), and will be equipped with 8GB of memory, which is consistent with the configuration of the iPhone 16.

It is worth noting that the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air will be equipped with the A19 chip, and the iPhone 17 Pro series will be equipped with the A19 Pro chip. Both chips will use TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process (N3P).

According to the existing information, compared with the iPhone 16, the main upgrade point of the standard version of the iPhone 17 is the screen. The phone will be equipped with a 120Hz ProMotion high refresh screen and support adaptive refresh rate adjustment. At the same time, the screen size of the iPhone 17 will be expanded from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, and the front camera will be upgraded from 12 million pixels to 24 million pixels.

However, the industrial design of the iPhone 17 is basically the same as that of the iPhone 16. The rear dual cameras are arranged vertically, and the most critical performance part has not been upgraded.

Finally, let’s review the basic configuration of the A18 chip. This chip uses a 6-core CPU configuration with 2 performance cores and 4 energy efficiency cores, and integrates a 5-core GPU and a 16-core neural engine.

Compared with the A16 chip of iPhone 15, the A18 has improved performance by 30% and reduced power consumption by 30%. If compared with the A15 chip, the A18 CPU performance has been improved by as much as 50%.
