According to Fast Technology on October 15th, before the era of full-screen displays, 16:9 was the absolute mainstream. After the arrival of the full-screen trend, in order to accommodate a larger display area within the same body width, various manufacturers have stretched the screen to 18:9, 19.5:9, or even 20:9, making mobile phones increasingly elongated.

With the widescreen market gaining momentum, OPPO is preparing to bring the aspect ratio back to 16:9 with a new product. According to the blogger Digital Chat Station, OPPO is developing the first widescreen flagship phone in the Android camp, belonging to the Find Pro series product line.

The prototype features a 6.35-inch screen with a resolution of 2560×1440, uses 8T LTPO technology, supports 3D ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint scanning, and is powered by MediaTek’s flagship Dimensity chip. It is expected to be officially launched in the first half of 2027.

The wide-screen design can be understood as a “wide-screen foldable” design. It retains the visual advantages of a wide screen while eliminating the hinge structure, resulting in a thinner and lighter body. The advantages of the wide screen are particularly evident in movie watching and reading scenarios.

When watching mainstream videos, the 16:9 aspect ratio closely matches the native aspect ratio of most film and television content, with the image almost filling the screen. The top and bottom black bars are significantly narrowed, resulting in a significantly increased effective display area and a much more immersive experience than models with a longer aspect ratio.

When reading text and image articles or e-books, a wider screen means more text can fit in a single line, reducing the frequency of line breaks, resulting in a smoother reading experience and higher information density. In split-screen multitasking scenarios, both apps also have ample horizontal space, making operation more relaxed.

In addition, OPPO’s wide-screen phone boasts an equally aggressive imaging system. Leaks suggest it will feature a dual 200MP rear camera setup, with both the main and telephoto lenses equipped with high-resolution, large-sensor cameras. Combined with joint tuning by OPPO and Hasselblad, its telephoto resolution and low-light performance are highly anticipated.

From an industry perspective, OPPO’s widescreen flagship is a noteworthy exploration. After pushing the boundaries of elongated phone screen ratios, returning to a wider screen ratio that better suits content consumption habits might offer a differentiated new path for the high-end market.
