Samsung completes verification of the 6th generation Snapdragon 8 Ultra with 16GB LPDDR6.
Fast Technology reported that Samsung Electronics announced that it has successfully validated 16GB of LPDDR6 memory on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 mobile platform, achieving an I/O speed of 10.7Gbps and a maximum single-chip bandwidth of 114GB/s. Compared to the previous generation LPDDR5X, it has improved power efficiency by up to 21%.
LPDDR6 is the latest generation specification that was officially established as a standard in the second half of last year. Its bandwidth range is 10.6Gbps-14.4Gbps, which is a further improvement over the previous generation’s 8.5Gbps-10.7Gbps level.
Samsung stated that as edge AI moves from single-point functions to multimodal interaction and long-cycle AI agents, the efficiency of data transfer between memory and processor has become a new bottleneck.
Large model inference requires repeated access to model weights and key-value cache data. The larger the model and the longer the interaction, the more critical memory bandwidth becomes.
LPDDR6 increases bandwidth to 114GB/s by enhancing I/O speed per pin and expanding the I/O architecture, effectively alleviating data transfer bottlenecks and enabling faster AI response on the edge.

In terms of power consumption, LPDDR6 introduces Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling (DVFS) and Dynamic Efficiency Mode (DEM). DVFS adjusts the operating voltage and frequency in real time according to performance requirements, while DEM reduces unnecessary power consumption during periods of low utilization. The two technologies work together to improve energy efficiency by up to 21% compared to LPDDR5X, allowing memory power consumption to be precisely matched with the actual load intensity, and preventing the waste of peak power when it is not needed.
In terms of reliability, LPDDR6 is equipped with a row activation count (PRAC) mechanism, which continuously monitors the number of repeated activations of a specific memory row, manages the resulting data interference risk, and ensures memory stability during multimodal processing and long-term operation of edge AI agents.

However, domestic manufacturers have taken the lead in the LPDDR6 process. Changxin Memory has been the first in the world to complete the mass production and commercial use of LPDDR6, which is first used in the Xiaomi 18 Fold with a peak speed of 12800Mbps. Paired with the domestically developed chip Xuanjie O3, the basic speed of working with the SoC is 10667Mbps, and the memory bandwidth can reach 113.8GB/s.
