Samsung unveils titanium alloy foldable screen technology: debuting on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series.
Fast Technology reported that Samsung Electronics today announced its Flex Titanium flexible titanium alloy technology for the next generation of Galaxy foldable screen devices. This technology will be first applied to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 series.
According to Samsung, the Flex Titanium builds upon its seven generations of foldable screen products by redesigning the display module structure and introducing two core components: a titanium alloy film and a titanium alloy support plate. This achieves a balance between thinness, flexibility, and structural strength, thereby improving screen durability and effectively reducing screen creases.
The titanium alloy film is located below the OLED panel and is mainly used to support the screen from the inside.
Compared to traditional polymer films, its mechanical rigidity is increased by 20 times, providing more stable structural support for display panels during repeated folding.
To balance high strength and a slim design, Samsung uses a precision rolling process to control the thickness of the titanium alloy film to about one-third the diameter of a human hair, thereby enhancing structural rigidity while minimizing its impact on screen thickness and flexibility.
A titanium alloy support plate is also provided underneath the titanium alloy film to support the entire display module.
Samsung uses advanced micro-hole processing technology to create a precise hole structure in the folding area, enabling the titanium alloy plate to maintain high strength while meeting the controllable deformation required for repeated screen folding.
At the same time, the new structure also reduces the air gap between the display module and the support plate adhesive layer, so that the screen can obtain more stable and uniform bottom support when unfolded, thereby improving the crease performance and overall display flatness.
In terms of display performance, Samsung has also introduced a high-resolution display architecture and a new generation of organic light-emitting materials into its next-generation foldable screen, which improves image clarity and color performance while further reducing power consumption and improving the overall energy efficiency of the screen.
Digital blogger “iIceUniverse” stated that Flex Titanium is one of the most important upgrades to the display structure in the seven generations of Samsung’s foldable screen development, and also a major breakthrough in the underlying technology of foldable screens.
