Snapdragon Wear Elite Introduces Advanced On-Device AI, Superior Performance and Longer Battery Life

Qualcomm has unveiled its newest system on a chip specifically designed for wrist worn devices now joining its “Elite” lineup. This latest chipset brings enhanced performance and advanced on device AI capabilities, tailored for the emerging era of agentic AI. It will serve as the backbone for the next generation of high end WearOS smartwatches while also enabling futuristic AI wearables like smart pins, pendants and other form factors with support extended to both Android and Linux operating systems.

From a performance perspective, Qualcomm states that the new Wear Elite platform delivers up to 5 times the CPU performance and as much as 7 times the GPU performance compared to the previous Snapdragon W5+ Gen 2 chipset. Users can also expect around 30% longer battery life thanks to it’s efficiency improvements. Built on a cutting edge 3nm fabrication process the Wear Elite incorporates a five core CPU architecture including a single prime core running at 2.1GHz and four additional performance cores operating at 1.9GHz along with a dedicated co-processor for handling specific AI and system tasks.

Qualcomm has introduced its first Wear series platform featuring a dedicated Hexagon NPU purpose built for agentic AI assistants. The NPU delivers an impressive 12 TOPS of performance and can support AI models with up to 2 billion parameters enabling more advanced on device intelligence than ever before.

On the connectivity front, Qualcomm is introducing 5G Reduced Capability (RedCap) support which help to deliver lower latency and improve overall battery efficiency for wearable devices. The chip also supports NB-NTN (Narrowband Non-Terrestrial Networks) allowing devices to maintain connections even in regions with limited or no traditional cellular coverage. Additionally, it also comes with support for advanced wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, UWB and dual band GNSS ensuring accurate positioning and seamless connectivity across a variety of environments.

Although the Snapdragon Wear Elite platform from Qualcomm comes equipped with the full range of connectivity standards mentioned earlier manufacturers of wearable devices will have the option to source customized versions of the SoC with certain features disabled or omitted providing greater flexibility for product design and optimization.

Fast charging is also supported on the Snapdragon Wear Elite platform with Qualcomm claiming that devices powered by the new SoC can reach a 50% charge in 10 minutes making it highly convenient for users who need a quick power boost. Looking ahead the first wearable devices powered by the Snapdragon Wear Elite are anticipated in the “coming months” with well known OEMs including Samsung, Google and Motorola already planning to bring devices based on this advanced platform to market.
