According to the latest report released by International Data Corporation (IDC), China’s smartphone market shipments reached 69 million units in the second quarter of 2025, a year-on-year decrease of 4.0%. However, Huawei successfully regained the top spot in China’s smartphone market with its technological innovation and strong market demand, becoming the biggest winner of the quarter.

In Q2 2025, Huawei’s shipments reached 12.5 million units, with a market share of 18.1%, an increase of 5.2 percentage points from 12.9% in the same period of 2024.

This growth shows that Huawei’s performance in the Chinese market continues to recover and has successfully surpassed other competitors. Huawei’s strong comeback is due to its continuous innovation in Hongmeng system, 5G technology and AI intelligent optimization, especially the launch of high-end models, which has attracted the favor of a large number of consumers.

Although Huawei has returned to the top of the list, other brands have also performed well in the market, and major manufacturers have launched new products to attract consumers.

Vivo ranked second with 11.9 million units shipped, accounting for 17.3% of the market share. Vivo’s growth was mainly due to its extensive layout in the mid-range market, especially its cost-effective product series such as the vivo X series and S series, which successfully attracted a large number of consumers, especially among young people.

OPPO ranked third, with shipments of 10.7 million units in Q2 2025 and a market share of 15.5%. OPPO continues to enhance its influence among consumers through innovations in 5G technology, camera functions and large-screen mobile phones.

Xiaomi ranked fourth with 10.4 million units shipped, accounting for 15.1% of the market share. Compared with 14.1% in Q2 2024, Xiaomi’s market share increased. Xiaomi continued to attract a large number of consumers with its cost-effective products, especially the Redmi series, and consolidated its leadership in the mid-range market.

Apple ranked fifth, with shipments of 9.6 million units in Q2 2025 and a market share of 13.9%, a slight increase from 13.5% in Q2 2024. Although Apple still dominates the high-end market, its overall market share is slightly weak.

Despite the overall market downturn, the continuous innovation of AI technology means that China’s smartphone market still has strong growth potential. Huawei’s return has not only reshaped the market landscape, but also prompted other manufacturers to increase their innovation efforts to cope with fierce competition.

Editor’s comments:

In the future, consumer demand for high performance, innovative features, and cost-effectiveness will further drive competition among brands. Huawei, vivo, OPPO, and Xiaomi will undoubtedly continue to dominate the Chinese market, while Apple and other brands will need to make more targeted adjustments in technological innovation and market positioning to meet the challenges posed by domestic brands.
