Vivo Unveils S50 and S50 Pro Mini with Fresh Designs and Upgraded Chipsets

As many people had anticipated, vivo has officially launched the S50 and S50 Pro Mini in China. These two smartphones are the latest additions to the brand’s midrange lineup offering refreshed designs and some important enhancements to their specifications compared to the previous models.

The vivo S50 feature a slightly smaller 6.59 inch display than its predecessor and comes with a more powerful Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor. Meanwhile, the S50 Pro Mini retain its small 6.31 inch display but also benefits from a performance boost with the recently announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip.

Both the devices come with AMOLED display that offer FHD+ resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Each device also includes a 50MP front facing camera and an updated ultrasonic fingerprint scanner for improved security and convenience.

The vivo S50 and S50 Pro Mini feature IP68 and IP69 ratings which protect them from water and dust. They are powered by 6,500 mAh Si/C batteries that support fast 90W wired charging. On top of this, the S50 Pro Mini also supports 40W wireless charging for added convenience.

The vivo S50 is powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor which is expected to provide a noticeable performance improvement over the S30’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chip. Similarly, the S50 Pro Mini feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip which should provide extra processing power over the S30 Pro Mini’s Dimensity 9300+. Both models can be set up with as much as 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage for smooth multitasking and ample storage space.

The vivo S50 and S50 Pro Mini share almost identical triple camera systems. Each device includes a 50MP main sensor (IMX921), a 50MP telephoto lens (IMX882) that supports 3x optical zoom and an 8MP ultrawide lens for capturing wide angle shots. Both devices come with pre-installed with OriginOS 6 which is based on Android 16.

The vivo S50 is available in four color options: white, blue, purple and black. The base model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage is priced at CNY 2,999 (around $425) while the top end version with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage costs CNY 3,599 (about $510). The S50 Pro Mini is available in white, purple and black, starting at CNY 3,699 ($524) for the 12/256GB trim and reaching up to CNY 4,299 ($609) for the 16/512GB version.

Both the vivo S50 and S50 Pro Mini are now available for pre order through vivo’s official website and the company plans to start delivering the phones on Friday, December 19.
