According to Fast Technology on May 22, affected by the continued surge in global memory chip prices, Samsung is evaluating the use of BOE OLED screens for its next-generation flagship Galaxy S27. This is an attempt to offset the cost pressure brought by rising memory prices and ensure the profit margin of the flagship product line through the replacement and adjustment of the core supply chain.

According to digital blogger iIce Universe, BOE’s panel quote to Samsung is $5 cheaper than Samsung’s own production cost for the same specifications, giving it a significant price-performance advantage.

At first glance, a price difference of $5 per unit may not seem high, and it is not enough to support manufacturers to adjust the mature supply chain they have been cooperating with for many years. However, as a leading flagship product line with annual global shipments exceeding 10 million units, the Galaxy S series has a very large overall volume. The cost savings per unit will accumulate to a very considerable figure.

Looking at the production schedule for April 2026 alone, Samsung has asked its upstream suppliers to increase the monthly production of the Galaxy S26 standard version to about 1.3 million units. If the S27 series is subsequently switched to purchasing screens from BOE, Samsung can save an additional $6.5 million in screen procurement costs in just one month. The resulting profit margin over the whole year is quite substantial.

It is worth mentioning that BOE has long been a core OLED panel supplier for Apple, with many years of experience in mass production and supply of high-end flagship screens. It can fully meet the stringent requirements of top flagship products in terms of core parameters such as yield, color calibration, and lifespan. It is not an entry-level screen manufacturer that mainly targets the low-end market.

Samsung’s proactive consideration of introducing BOE as a screen supplier is essentially a microcosm of the gradual changes in the global consumer electronics market supply chain landscape. The technological strength of domestically produced high-end panels has been widely recognized by leading global manufacturers, and more overseas brands will choose high-end screen products made in China for their flagship models in the future.
