South Korean hinge supplier Partstec recently announced that after five years of research and development, they have successfully developed the world’s thinnest foldable mobile phone hinge, which is only 2.5 mm thick . This move is expected to further reduce the thickness of foldable screen mobile phones.

According to foreign media reports, Partstec’s 2.5mm hinge adopts a brand-new design and has obtained international design patents.

Compared with the previous generation of products, the number of components of the new hinge has been reduced from 200 to 65, which reduces production costs and successfully reduces the price of the hinge by one third. At the same time, the weight of the hinge is also reduced by 25%.

These improvements make the new hinge excel in durability, crease depth, ease of operation and the feel of the device when folded in half, and are expected to reduce the thickness of the phone to less than 9 mm when folded.

This means that future foldable phones can remain light, thin and portable while providing a better user experience.

Currently, the hinge thickness of most foldable phones in the world is between 2.83-2.84 mm, and they are mainly manufactured by Amphenol and Samsung in the United States.

The advent of Partstec’s new 2.5mm hinge will break the status quo in the industry and drive foldable screen phones towards a thinner, lighter and more portable direction.
