According to Fast Technology on October 30, blogger Smart Chip Insider hinted that the Xiaomi 18 standard edition will be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8E6 (Fast Technology note: Qualcomm’s sixth-generation Snapdragon 8 Ultra), making it the only standard flagship this year to use a 2nm chip.

Among the domestic flagship phones that have been released so far, all the standard versions either use the previous generation flagship platform or are equipped with a 3nm chip. Only Xiaomi’s standard version is equipped with the latest 2nm SoC, which makes the Xiaomi 18 standard version the only standard version flagship phone this year that directly uses the latest process technology in terms of chip.

In September of this year, Qualcomm launched two flagship SoCs simultaneously: the Snapdragon 8E6 and the Snapdragon 8EE6. Both chips are manufactured using a 2nm process, and the CPU continues Qualcomm’s custom Oryon architecture, adopting a “2+6” dual-cluster design, consisting of two 5.0GHz Prime super cores and six 4.0GHz performance cores.

One of the main differences between the two lies in the NPU. The Snapdragon 8EE6’s NPU performance is improved by 35%, making it suitable for Pro Max and Ultra models that have the highest requirements for on-device AI, professional video recording, and extreme game graphics quality; the Snapdragon 8E6’s NPU performance is improved by 14%, balancing cost while maintaining flagship-level performance, making it more suitable for mainstream flagships.

In addition to being equipped with the Snapdragon 8E6, another major upgrade of the Xiaomi 18 is the dual 200-megapixel cameras. Both the main camera and the periscope telephoto lens are 200-megapixel lenses, which significantly improves the resolution and zoom capabilities.

The standard version of the Xiaomi 18 has already obtained network access permission, model number M261DB. The new product is expected to be released in December this year. Considering the significant increase in the cost of 2nm chips and memory, the starting price of the Xiaomi 18 is also expected to rise.
