Four models! Huawei Mate 80 configuration exposed

Huawei’s new flagship Mate 80 is expected to be launched in the fourth quarter. By then, the new phone is expected to be equipped with the new Kirin 9030 processor, and it is rumored that its performance will be improved by 20%.

In addition, the report believes that Kirin 9030 will continue the 7nm process, with “core architecture improvements and process continuation” based on Kirin 9020, unless a miracle happens in the next few months.

While maintaining the same lithography process, a 20% performance improvement over the previous generation of chips is already a considerable improvement, and regardless of whether the chip is slower than competitors, the Mate 80 series is expected to sell well.

Previous market news showed that the Huawei Mate 80 series will return to a straight-screen design across the board, and will continue to have a combination of four models (standard edition, Pro, Pro+, and RS Master).

Among them, the standard version uses a 6.75-inch 1.5K straight screen, the Pro series is upgraded to a 6.89-inch 1.5K double-layer OLED straight screen, and retains the 3D face recognition function.

After the Huawei Pura 80 series was launched, its chip was highly anticipated. Some bloggers disassembled it as soon as possible, but it is still equipped with the Kirin 9020 processor, which is consistent with last year’s Mate 70 series.

Huawei’s executive director Yu Chengdong said at the press conference that compared with the Pura 70 Pro+ equipped with Kirin 9010, the Pura 80 series has improved the overall performance by 36% and the control fluency by 47%.

Since last year, there have been many revelations about Huawei’s chip process on the Internet. For example, the well-known blogger “Digital Chat Station” said at the end of November last year that Huawei has achieved a breakthrough in key chip technology, and the future Kirin chips will be iterated according to the K9020/9030/9040 pattern.

What is certain at the moment is that the most advanced process used by all of Huawei’s Kirin series processors is still 7nm, and the 5nm breakthrough is still in progress.

Last month, TechInsights, a well-known semiconductor industry observation organization, completed an exploratory analysis of the Kirin X90 and confirmed that the processor still uses a 7nm (N+2) process technology, not the rumored 5nm.

Kirin X90 is equipped in Huawei’s MateBook Fold foldable screen Hongmeng computer. The notebook was launched in May 2025 and is equipped with the self-developed Kirin X90 processor and the self-developed Hongmeng 5 operating system, which has attracted widespread attention.

In the absence of EUV equipment, domestic 5nm technology still faces challenges.
